News::eGamer Podcast: BioShock Infinite Spoiler Spectacular

Quote: "Welcome to a very special episode of the eGamer Podcast, in which we discuss all things related to BioShock Infinite. The Irrational Games developed title has been out for a few weeks now and weve deemed it sufficient enough time to have acquired, played through and completed the game, for most folks. However if not, then this podcast will remain until those others who have not completed the game, finally get around to it. Either way, we really wanted to discuss everything about the game, in as much spoilerific detail as possible, so we decided why not put our collection of thoughts into a podcast and let everyone join in on the fun. So here it is."

News::Link goes metal in Ledjent of Zelda

From Ryan "Mega Beardo" Postlethwait, the man who brought us the Castlevania concept album Belmont , comes a modern metal re-imagining of the original NES Zelda soundtrack. At a mere four tracks in length, Ledjent of Zelda just pops in, rocks your face, then zips out the side door like a phantom in the night. The digital version is free, but you can choose to be generous and spring for the $5 physical album if you wanna.

I would like to point out Beardo's amazing NES guitar. I've seen consoles converted into guitars before -- MegaDriver, anyone? -- and there's always a certain tacky hotness about them. It's like, you wouldn't expect sound to actually come out of one of those things, but it does! How does that happen? Voodoo magic? A pact with Satan?

Whatevs. I can dig it!

News::Epic Games' Tim Sweeney Explains Lack Of 'SVOGI' In Unreal Engine 4

DSOGaming writes: "Epic Games impressed gamers back in 2012 when it showcased its latest game engine, Unreal Engine 4, with its Global Illumination support. The Elemental Tech Demo was a beauty to behold, however its latest version which ran on Sonys PS4 did not feature any of it. Naturally, a lot of PC gamers blamed consoles for not being powerful enough to run this end-all-be-all feature. And in an interview with GameTrailers, Epic Games Tim Sweeney decided to shed some light on that matter."

The Paranoid Gamer writes: "Everyone is familiar new triple-A blockbuster games. But how many people actually know the effort that goes into them? News::Virtual reality is the future of treadmills ... I think?

You don't need a gym when you have a 3DS and elliptical machine, I've realized in recent months. Playing Fire Emblem while working my calfs is both great fun and great fitness, yet my mind has been wondering what else is out there. The Virtuix Omni is out there.

The Omni (by Virtuix) is a full-body enclosed interface that is to be paired with virtual reality. It's kind of like a crazier, state-of-the-art version of the Sega Activator or those goofy machines you'd find at Six Flags in the '90s. The latest Omni demo shows an intense match of Team Fortress 2 amplified by the combination of Oculus Rift virtual reality gear.

If you have interest in owning such an elaborate, high tech workout setup, stay tuned for an upcoming Kickstarter teased on Virtuix's website. Or, you join me and Dale North by picking up your 3DS next time you are at the gym.

With permission from Zelda Reorchestrated, Cubed3 has put the entire album up on YouTube, available to at your leisure. After listening to the album today, the sheer quality of it just makes the news of the group's closure sting even more.

News::Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon brings out the big guns

Ubisoft’s initially jarring decision to go the route of all-out ’80s action homage with Blood Dragon is becoming more convincingly brilliant by the day.

In a wonderfully knowing developer diary posted by Ubisoft yesterday, complete with a VHS-style visual filter, it was revealed that James Cameron-regular Michael Biehn (or Cpl. Dwayne Hicks, to most of us) would be lending his gruff tones to one of the game’s characters.

The short, silly diary is just the latest in a clever marketing drive by Ubisoft to push its Montreal studio’s production. The highlight thus far is an astonishing live-action homage from Corridor Digital, The Cyber War, released earlier this week that really needs to be seen to be believed.

Watch, and cheer, The Cyber War here.

News::Microsoft financials: Xbox Live memberships and revenue up

Microsoft posted its thrid-quarter financial report yesterday, revealing that its Entertainment And Devices Division had achieved $2.53 billion revenue, a 56 per cent increase on the same quarter last year.

Xbox Live itself was singled out for managing an 18 per cent increase in members on last year, now boasting over 46 million sign-ups.

“The bold bets we made on cloud services are paying off as people increasingly choose Microsoft services including Office 365, Windows Azure, Xbox LIVE, and Skype,” said Steve Ballmer in the report, a chief executive officer at Microsoft. “While there is still work to do, we are optimistic that the bets we’ve made on Windows devices position us well for the long-term.”

The news is encouraging for Microsoft’s Entertainment And Devices Division, following its second-quarter financial report this year that marked an 11 per cent decrease in year-on-year revenue.

News::Defiance Review - An Ambitious Experiment - The Koalition

The Koalition writes: "Defiance is unlike anything that has ever hit the world before. It's a television show like any other, but isn't. It's a Massively Multiplayer Online shooter, but it isn't. I don't really know how to describe the concepts at play to someone that isn't at least sort of familiar with it already - but I'm going to try. Basically, Syfy, the TV channel, partnered with Trion Worlds, the game studio, to release this cross-media experience they like to call Defiance. Both the game and the show take place in the same world and are supposedly going to impact and influence one another, but that remains to be seen. As of the time of this writing, I've had a good deal of time with the game and seen the shows double-length pilot episode and I have plenty to say."

MeriStation: "In a point somewhere between the masterpiece D&D: Tower of Doom and the nightmarish Double Dragon 2: Wander of the Dragons is where we could situate this Sacred Citadel, a spin off that will be preparing the way for its older brother Sacred 3. Visually vibrant and colourful in a comic-esque style, it's a shame that its walkthrough seems like a rollercoaster, with great, funny playable action parts and others boring or insanely harder. News::Why PC Gaming is Putting Consoles to Shame

Microsoft Creative Director Adam Orth was forced to resign last week after comments he made on his Twitter page. "Sorry, I don't get the drama of having an 'always on' console," Orth tweeted. "Every device now is 'always on'. That's the world we live in. #dealwithit." Mr Orth's comments were made after rumours began circulating that the Xbox 360's successor, nicknamed the Xbox 720, would always require an internet connection in order to work, even to play games that have no online features. Of course, his comments shouldn't in any way be taken as confirmation that Microsoft have opted to go the always-on route with the Xbox 720, but they are yet more fuel added to a fire that Microsoft isn't in any way helping to extinguish. The idea of always-online DRM is so anti-consumer and loathsome that, if the rumours aren't true, you'd have to believe Microsoft would have released a statement by now in order to stop all the bad press they're receiving. Creating a console that is only...

News::Sacred Citadel Review | Game Over Online

Game Over Online: "Its got some flaws, but Sacred Citadel is a very good game as a whole. It isnt quite a must-buy at $15 given that its also got day-one pay DLC though. If the base game was $10, that would be an easier pill to swallow, but at $15, it costs a bit too much to get the full experience. Its still well worth playing, though, and most will probably be satisfied by picking up the main game and waiting for a sale on the DLC down the line. Its a little bit surprising to me that this third release in the Army of Two series even exists; as far as I know no one has been screaming from the internet, We must have another!
