News::Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine pulls off a damn fine heist | GameZone Review

GameZone writes, "Successfully pulling off a heist is never an easy feat. There are many intricacies and factors to take into account when youre planning on robbing a place clean or busting out an imprisoned partner in crime. Granted, Ive never actually been a part of a real heist because, quite frankly, Id be too stupid and nervous to actually do what Im supposed to do. That said, Monaco: Whats Yours Is Mine from developer Pocketwatch Games is an entertaining take on the classic heist in video game form that provides plenty of tense moments, as well as the aforementioned intricacies."

Whether you're stepping in the shoes of Agent 47 in Hitman: Absolution, or perhaps clearing your name as the bodyguard Corvo in Dishonored, you have a number of ways to be both invisible and badass at the same time. News::Zack Zero Review - Pixel Related

Patrick Cassin of Pixel Related writes: "Sometimes game developers make my job really easy. Sometimes they make games that are truly innovative, narratively engaging, beautiful to behold and possessed of so many virtues one cannot help but extol them. Like Skyrim. Sometimes developers make my job really easy by making games that are so horrible you can barely stand to play them, that dont work properly, get everything fundamentally wrong to the point where you simply dont know where to start in describing the train wreck, and may even be helpful enough to suggest a review score somewhere in their title. News::Club Nintendo offers refunds for Super Metroid purchases

Recently, Club Nintendo offered up Super Metroid for 150 coins -- a modest offering, right? There's only one problem: the game was set to go on sale for $0.30 on May 15th. As a result, Nintendo is offering up a 150 Coin refund for people who bought it early, and didn't know about the sale. It's a nice gesture for people who may not be as up on Nintendo news as the rest of us, so if you recently redeemed your coins for it, check your email.

Super Metroid will be the latest game in the $0.30 sale bonanza pretty soon, followed by Yoshi (NES) and Donkey Kong (NES) in June and July, respectively. If you're curious as to the Wii U's Virtual Console situation, here's a full rundown.

News::Rockman Xover shows off Arcade Man footage

The strangely popular Rockman X-Over is still getting new content, despite the fact that the localization is on hold. Specifically, the retro themed Arcade Man is now a part of the game, compliments of the Mega Man boss fan contest.

The ol' retro robot himself uses attacks reminiscent of Arthur and Son Son from classic retro Capcom games. Sadly, I feel like this fairly cool concept is all but wasted on a dull game, as opposed to, oh I don't know, say a full new HD Mega Man game from Wayforward. With the right stuff, a retro themed Mega Man boss that incorporates classic mechanics could be one of the best Robot Masters in history.

For now, you can watch the underwhelming footage and just pine.

News::The Stomping Land, a multiplayer survival game about dinosaurs

In order to survive, your primary need is simply to eat dinosaur meat. There are plenty of small dinosaurs on the island for you to hunt, but larger carnivores are nearly impossible to kill and are effective at preventing you from obtaining your food. Cooperation is highly rewarded since the process of hunting becomes drastically easier. Groups of hunters will have the ability to build campsites, which can be used to store meat. Large quantities of stored meat will enable abilities for that group. The more meat that is being stored by players, the fewer huntable dinosaurs will be present on the map. This will cause other tribes to seek down and destroy your campsites. Becoming the dominant tribe on the island is the ultimate goal.

News::Can you handle this Project X Zone character spotlight?

Project X Zone has a new trailer, and it shows off a ton of characters that will be appearing in the project. If you've been following the game for a while now you won't find any surprises. But for a lot of you some of the appearances will definitely catch you off guard, as will the retro background music. In fact, I dare say this is one of the most fan service oriented trailers ever.

I've seen a lot of you out there confused as to what Project X Zone actually is, but it's not really that tough to explain. In a nutshell, it's a strategy RPG much like Disgaea or Final Fantasy Tactics, with a large cast consisting of characters from Namco Bandai, Capcom, and Sega properties. The genre itself is fairly niche, so research it a bit before you dive right in.

News::Metal Gear Rising's Blade Wolf DLC gets a new trailer

We already know that the Blade Wolf DLC for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be released on May 14th (May 15th on the PS3) for $6.99 (560 MSP), but now we have actual gameplay by way of a new Konami trailer. From the looks of it, the Blade Wolf will have access to stealth kills and the zandatsu technique. If you aren't keen on having things spoiled, I'd avoid the trailer from 1:55 onward, as it shows off the "new boss enemy" that will headline the DLC.

Rising is one of my favorite games of the year, and this time, I hope the DLC delivers. With a cheaper price point and promises of actual new content, I have higher hopes for Blade Wolf.

News::Injustice: Gods Among Us Wii U DLC delayed until Summer

Remember when everyone but Wii U owners got the first bit of Injustice: Gods Among Us DLC? Yeah that was good times. After some radio silence, developer NetherRealm has finally come clean, and announced that the DLC will be available for the Wii U "this summer," and to "stay tuned." It's a start at least, but no reason was given for the delay. Many fans are upset because they want to stay competitive at this time, but can't, as they're not able to practice with the new DLC.

To be blunt, this post-launch treatment of Wii U ports is getting old. First, Activision leaves Wii U fans completely in the dark about Black Ops II DLC. Next, Ubisoft, after a long period of silence, released each bit of Assassin's Creed III DLC weeks after each add-on already dropped on other platforms. Developers, be upfront with what the issue is, whatever it may be -- don't wait for people to buy your game and then tell them the DLC either won't exist or will be late. Whatever your excuse is, just don't blame it on the GamePad.

News::Impossible Road review

It’s not really fair to call it a road. That word calls to mind a strip of drab, dirty pavement. No, Impossible Road’s track more closely resembles a whirling gymnast ribbon, gracefully freeze-framed in a sea of white. Every second or two, a bright shimmer ripples down its surface, giving it a foil-like iridescence. As palette cleansing to the eyes as the game’s blue-and-white monochrome may look in a screenshot, the experience of guiding a hurtling white ball down its surface without sailing off the edge is about as terrifying a prospect as gaming has to offer.

We can’t say Impossible Road didn’t warn us, proudly wearing its severe difficulty in its name like one of those formatted nametags: Hello, My Name Is…Bastard-Hard Mobile Game. If you shouted four-letter words at your iDevice while playing Super Hexagon, you’ll be wracking your brain for five- and six-letter epithets to hurl at Impossible Road. Echoes of Wipeout, Super Monkey Ball and Mario Kart’s Rainbow Road track are inescapable, and the game nods to Super Hexagon in its controls, which involve tapping opposing sides of the screen with your thumbs to tilt the field of play and affect the trajectory of the ball (a.k.a. The Vessel).

The game measures your score by how many checkpoint gates you can make it through before plummeting into the snowblind abyss. Here’s the ingenious twist: leaping off the road isn’t automatic suicide. You keep your forward momentum while falling and if you manage to guide The Vessel back onto a later patch of ribbon before the world bleeds out to white a few seconds after losing direct contact with the road, you can game the system and boost your score more rapidly. Simply for the harrowing elegance of this risk-reward proposition, Impossible Road’s lone developer Kevin Ng deserves to have his pockets paved with gold.

Impossible Road is available on the App Store now for £1.49 / $1.99.

News::Ouya release date pushed to June 25 after securing $15 million in VC funding

Ouya has announced that it is pushing back its launchdate to allow the company to manufacture more hardware after securing a fresh round of VC funding.

Ouya founder and CEO Julie Uhrman stated: “This is a really important step towards being around for the long haul.”

Ouya has already been shipping units to early backers, and expects to have completed that process by the end of May. Greater than expected demand from games players and retailers means that the official public launch date will now be June 25.

Uhrman said of the investment: “It means we’ve got additional resources to make Ouya everything it can be. It means that we can increase production to meet our demand and continue to support game developers who are building innovative and exclusive games for Ouya.”

Investors include Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, the same firm that originally backed Electronic Arts, Mayfield Fund, Nvidia, Shasta Ventures and Occam Partners.
