News::There really needs to be a Skylanders cartoon already

The entire Skylanders series appeals to me in a lot of ways, most of all how it reminds me of cartoons I used to watch as a kid. This latest trailer for SWAP Force really shows off what I mean by that, and really makes me wish Activision would already look into making a television series based on the property.

There's no way they haven't at least thought of the idea before, and they're probably going to need to start pushing for more trans-media promotion now with Disney Infinity up on the turf developer Toys for Bob started with the first Skylanders.

Two more trailers below that show off more of the new characters we can expect out of the new Skylanders.

News::Let's watch the full Beyond: Two Souls gameplay demo

Beyond: Two Souls is getting a demo on October 1, 2013. Some people can get it right now though if you know where to look. Like on GameStop's Facebook page.

For everyone else, the entire demo has been uploaded to YouTube. And you know what? That's fine by me in this case. I have never been able to get into a David Cage game before. So I'd much rather watch someone else play.

News::Nvidia seeks peace with Linux

Few companies have been the target of as much criticism in the Linux community as Nvidia. Linus Torvalds himself last year called Nvidia the "single worst company" Linux developers have ever worked with, giving the company his middle finger in a public talk. Nvidia is now trying to get on Linux developers' good side. Yesterday, Nvidia's Andy Ritger e-mailed developers of Nouveau, an open source driver for Nvidia cards that is built by reverse engineering Nvidia's proprietary drivers. Ritger wrote that "NVIDIA is releasing public documentation on certain aspects of our GPUs, with the intent to address areas that impact the out-of-the-box usability of NVIDIA GPUs with Nouveau. We intend to provide more documentation over time, and guidance in additional areas as we are able."

News::New story details and art revealed for Star Wars 1313

Oh Star Wars 1313, you were the hope of so many Star Wars fans. With LucasArts no more, there's little hope of this Boba Fett adventure ever coming. What would it have been about? IGN was shown 15 minutes of a demo that would have been at at E3 earlier this year.

The game was to begin with a prologue set on Tattooine, taking place between the prequel movies and the original trilogies. Fett had yet to get his Mandalorian armor, but the pieces would come together as you advanced in the story.

As for the story, it would have involved Fett searching for bounties while working for Jabba the Hutt, going through 1313 and the mysterious 1314. The main plot point revolved around the crime families of 1313 using Tauntauns to smuggle spices to other planets.

Gameplay was likened to Uncharted's platforming, taking place on huge action set pieces. Which means there would have been scripted sequences and the like.

There's way more details on IGN, including how the game was actually going to tie-in to the live-action television series, plus a bunch of concept art.

News::MotoHeroz races to Android, goes free-to-play on iOS

Late in the Wii's life, Trials developer RedLynx released MotoHeroz on the console, which was similar to the legendary motorcycle platformer, but a bit simpler and more focused on party style multiplayer. The following year, MotoHeroz appeared on iOS devices to little fanfare.

Now, the physics-based racing game can be found on the Google Play store for use on Android devices, and to mark the occasion, it is is going as a fully free-to-play title on both Android and iOS. As with the original Wii version, players can progress through the campaign, racing to earn stars and unlocking new levels with those stars. However, vehicle upgrades appear to be purchased using coins, which are obtainable via in-app purchase.

News::Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Review - The Digital Fix

Lone wolves, the one-man squad, the masterless ronin; all pertinent descriptions of my MMO play style that could just as easily be described as being a grumpy, anti-social bastard. A spate in Azeroth taught me the fundamentals of grinding and the eerily similar Neverwinter showed how it could all be done for free albeit with a little spare change for pesky microtransactions. Time with JRPGs revealed the intricacies inherent in grinding balancing high-level quests against the appropriately stocked equipment sack along with the puzzle-piece plotlines from which almost all JRPGs derive their stories. Raids had been conducted but either the feeling of intruding into a closed enclave or the shadow of inadequacy did little to break the mesmerising spell of solitary exploration. There comes a point in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn when raids become mandatory and that feeling you felt on the first day of school of entering a playground with no familiar faces rose up again. Our previous look at Level-5's adorable new RPG scored by Final Fantasy's Nobuo Uematsu was tempered because it is a free-to-play mobile title. It's meant to release in Japan this November on Android and iOS.

However, some wind was blown back in our sails with this PS4 Wonder Flick trailer, which feels a bit heftier, if only for the console controllers we will be having in our hands while we play. The title is heading to PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox One, and Wii U, so hopefully you have at least one of those things. I think this might be an excellent thing to play on the Vita. Wii U, too, but Vita for extra portability and that lovely screen.

News::Ookibloks review

Everything about Ookibloks – from its name to its art to its music – makes you wonder whether you’re rediscovering some lost arcade classic. It’s a game that feels old-fashioned in the best way: its bright, happy visuals belie a fierce but fair challenge, its controls are simple and responsive, and its cheerful soundtrack will soon be on your brain’s internal Spotify playlist.

Vertical and horizontal swipes send your simian avatar hurtling through block mazes, your objective being to hit every banana block within. You can avoid the patrolling enemies – swimming penguins, hovering pterodactyls, dive-bombing hermit crabs – but often you’ll be forced to remove them from the equation by stunning them with a piece of hanging fruit you’ve dislodged and striking them before they recover.

Though the goal never changes, the levels grow steadily more devious in design, adding various special tiles without ever losing that irresistible simplicity; indeed, new items or enemies are introduced without explanation, and none is required. You’re rewarded for speed with combo multipliers, though obtaining the last few bananas often requires careful thought. Yet you’ll be punished for dawdling: the invincible Devil Cat will appear after a while, prompting a frantic dash for the final blocks.

Purchasable power-ups, while a welcome option for those who want to see the later levels, rather dissipate the tension, but these are the only misstep. With a clutch of intricate puzzle stages and some tough daily challenges for players chasing mastery, Ookibloks challenges mind and thumbs in equal measure.

Ookibloks is free, and out now on iOS.

Pixels for Breakfast writes: Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians is a musically-influenced visual splendour that puts the player in an underwater world filled with musical cues and smooth art designs. Upon first playing the game at PAX Aus back in July I was excited for what this game may involve, as it featured beautiful visuals, interesting challenges and incredibly catchy tunes. One of the first things players will notice is that listening to the soundtrack is key to succeeding in Beatbuddy, as enemies and traps follow the rhythmic pattern of the music. Even characters names are reminiscent of musical terminology. However, for all of the aspects of the aesthetics that captivates the players attention, unfortunately the stage design eventually becomes a bit stale and lengthy that getting towards the end will often feel like a chore.

News::JonTron died and on the third day rose again

In the climactic war between Grump and Not So Grump, the mighty Jafari fell to the cunning Raptor. Tears were shed for the fallen, seemingly lost to the ether for eternity.

Lo, Jafari was merely bidding his time, that he may again demonstrate his power unfurled. Many an age has it been since he conquered the infinite territory of space, but his next conquest will be over mortality itself.

Behold as he challenges the very gods that govern Creation with such power that would put Heracles to shame.

News::FIFA Soccer Blog | FIFA 14 Review

FSB writes "The changes to gameplay arent revolutionary or completely innovative, but with a solid base already in place, EA has tweaked the current-gen version in mostly all the right places. FIFA 14 plays a thoroughly enjoyable, solid game of football, delivering an incredible overall package, both offline and online. Yes, its not perfect, work definitely needs to be done on improving the games AI and passing, but EA has done the majority of hard work in this generation and set FIFA up very nicely for the next."

News::Nvidia boss: No longer possible for consoles to have better graphics than PC

Tamasi: Its no longer possible for a console to be a better or more capable graphics platform than the PC. Ill tell you why. In the past, certainly with the first PlayStation and PS2, in that era there werent really good graphics on the PC. Around the time of the PS2 is when 3D really started coming to the PC, but before that time 3D was the domain of Silicon Graphics and other 3D workstations. Sony, Sega or Nintendo could invest in bringing 3D graphics to a consumer platform. In fact, the PS2 was faster than a PC.

News::Foul Play Review A Gentlemans Brawler | Twinfinite

Step into the theatre and catch a showing of the greatest story ever told, starring Baron Dashforth the daemonologist and his trusty sidekick, Scampwick. Mediatonic has cooked up an interesting theatre-style brawler for XBLA and PC, rewarding a smarter, more patient play style over mindless button mashing. Its not hard to pick up, but there are quite a few moves available once youve unlocked them all, which makes Foul Play tricky to master. It will take you three of four hours to complete the first time, but theres plenty of reason to replay levels to unlock and discover all of its content.

News::NY Daily News- Review NBA 2K14

NYDN:NBA 2K14, on the other hand, loses no overall luster, even if we cant be sure this will be the pinnacle of 2013 hoops gaming. There are scant details on the next-gen version of NBA 2K14, but the screenshots and videos that have been released look tremendous, so theres something to be said for a patient approach to the series in 2013, for waiting to see what the next-gen game has in store.
