News::Hands-on Impressions of Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions From PAX 14 | Entertainment Buddha

Entertainment Buddha's Matt Heywood writes: "The original Geometry Wars can be credited with ushering in the Xbox Live Arcade era on the Xbox 360, and for that matter the introduction of casual indie-style games for consoles. Its addicting high-score-centric gameplay kept gamers blasting geometric shapes for hours on end trying to topple their friends scores on the leaderboard, or the top global spot for those skilled enough to score billions of points. The success of the first title led to a sequel, which has now led to an additional sequel from Sierra called Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, and if you couldnt tell from the title the series has now moved into a 3D space."

Marcus Estradae writes: "A lot of the time video games don't really focus much on emotion. Elliot Collis' desolate (stylized with no capitalization) has certainly gotten my attention with its description as an "adventure game influenced by my experiences, emotions, and my acceptance of self growing up."

News::New 3DS is region locked because of course it is

Nintendo announced the New 3DS and New 3DS XL last week during a Direct presentation. These are coming first to Japan this October with a new C-Stick, additional shoulder buttons, better 3D, near-field communication for amiibo toys, and a few other useful features. Also, rather surprisingly, there will be New-only games that aren't compatible with existing 3DS models.

The official line is that these systems won't be available in the United States and Europe this calendar year, which is a letdown. Nintendo has also confirmed with GameSpot that the New 3DS and New 3DS XL will be region locked which, gee, you don't say. Annoying, but expected.

The new systems look good to me but, frankly, a huge part of their appeal lies in the fact that I just never got around to buying a 3DS XL. Going from the original to New 3DS will be a nice upgrade. And while I don't usually import games, the option to do so would've been appreciated.

News::EA Access adding Need for Speed Rivals, more trials

When it was announced, I thought EA Access sounded like a decent value depending on your personal gaming habits. That's still where I'm at. This month's addition to the Vault, Need for Speed Rivals , doesn't do much to change my opinion one way or the other.

That's scheduled to roll out to subscribes in the coming weeks, and there are also six-hour trials for NHL 15 and FIFA 15 on the way. The former will be playable beginning this Thursday. Additionally, Access is headed to more countries soon, including Brazil and the Netherlands.

As a reminder, this service is $4.99 per month or $29.99 a year.
