News::Throwdown Your Questions Ep. 06

The Koalition's Tony Polanco writes: "On this episode, some of the questions answered are: *Whats the scariest game you guys have ever played? *Do you guys think developers should scale back on one system for the sake of parity with the weaker system? *Which series do you prefer: Mass Effect or Fallout? *Have you ever gotten deterred from playing a game, however great it may be, because youve not played the earlier games in the series? *Do you get in the habit of buying games and then never playing them? *How big is your backlog? *Why is the FPS genre is currently dominating? Do you think it will continue to do so this generation?"

News::Review: Final Fantasy XIII (PC) - Hardcore Gamer

Its hard to believe were coming up on five years since Final Fantasy XIII first hit the market. It was one of the most highly anticipated games of the last generation, but while the gameplay was fun, it ultimately left people a little disappointed with its constrained progression. Since its release in early 2010, two additional sequels have spawned to create the XIII trilogy, telling the time traveling story of Serah, and the newly knighted Goddess, Lightning. In a surprise move, Square Enix has decided to bring the three-part series to PC via Steam, with the original to come first. Square has been making a push on the platform for the last couple of years, with excellent ports for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Sleeping Dogs and more, so what could go wrong? A lot, apparently.

News::Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Review | DigitalChumps

DC - "Ah Borderlands. The awesome FPS/RPG hybrid that brings out the best of both, while combining interesting plot with fantastic humor to get quite an experience. The original Borderlands was, in my own opinion, was a game more serious in tone, but that was back when it was still new, still trying to find its way into the gaming world."

News::You fools! I have dibs on [DLC Character #1] in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!

Fools. You poor, poor, poor, poor fools. It's almost as if you don't even like winning at life.

I mean, I guess there's nothing wrong with choosing Athena, Claptrap, Nisha, or Wilhelm as your go-to character in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel . Just like there's nothing wrong with eating Taco Bell for all four meals every day.

But that doesn't make it right, either.

You know what is right? Paying to win. That's why I'm calling dibs on [DLC Character #1].

News::Okay, this Mega Man armor for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is cute

Man, Capcom is killing it with these Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate crossovers. And by "it," I of course mean Sonic the Hedgehog. He never stood a chance.

This Palico armor styled after Mega Man is super cute but, admittedly, it's hard not to look at the nod, neat as it is, and be all "Hey, where's our next proper Mega Man game?"

GameInformer- When it works, NBA 2K15 offers a triple double worth of compelling content, from its accessible but deep gameplay to the deep MyGM and dramatic MyCareer modes. Unfortunately, the connectivity issues continue to box out players from its engaging experiences. Not every mode is affected, but tying the predominantly offline MyCareer to the servers was a poor decision, as was the choice to once again take the court with an underperforming online suite. What enjoyment you get out of the game will likely be tied to how much importance you place on connected experiences.

News::Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor Review - AMHNetwork

"One major hiccup aside, Shadow of Mordor is one that should be experienced by all. Whether you are a fan of Tolkeins works and wish to see a new, and far darker side of Middle Earth or you are simply an action game fan at heart then there is something here for all of you. Some small design blemishes in gameplay and a disappointing final battle fail to overcome the excellent implementation of the Nemesis system, a brilliant plot and some superb action sequences. Weve seen some pretty ordinary games spawn from Tolkeins works but if we were to see more from this particular series then fans can come away very happy indeed."

News::Review: Short Peace: Ranko Tsukigime's Longest Day

The Short Peace project was born out a desire to unite some of Japan's most talented artists and tell stories about the country's past, present, and a possible future. The result is a lovely bouquet of action, romance, and social commentary, a collection of four animated short films that are thought-provoking, gorgeous, and brilliant in just about every way.

The anthology also includes a game, Ranko Tsukigime's Longest Day, a modest collaboration between Grasshopper Manufacture and Tokyo Jungle studio Cripsy's that seems doomed to live in the shadow of greatness.

News::Donkey Kong Country trilogy returning to Virtual Console in the UK

Back in November 2012, Nintendo removed the Donkey Kong Country series from the Wii's Virtual Console for some reason that, to my knowledge, was never publicly addressed. But those games will resurface this month on Wii U alongside the Donkey Kong Land series on 3DS.

The release schedule, at least for the UK, is as follows:

  • Oct. 16: Donkey Kong Land (3DS), Donkey Kong Country (Wii U)

  • Oct. 23: Donkey Kong Land 2 (3DS), Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (Wii U)

  • Oct. 30: Donkey Kong Land III (3DS), Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble (Wii U)

Bonus: if you purchase one of the Donkey Kong Country titles before November 6, you'll get a 33 percent discount on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Similarly, folks who get a Donkey Kong Land title can save 33 percent on Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.

Nintendo of America hasn't made an announcement about the re-releases yet but, presumably, we'll get them too. Even though DKC 2 is nearly inseparable from my Super Nintendo, I'd love the chance to nab it and its follow-up on Wii U. The Donkey Kong Land games were good for what they were, but I could never get over the limited Game Boy graphics. Too much of a downgrade.
