GamersNexus: "The entire Waterforce unit includes an OLED panel with real-time temperature output, fan RPM control, and variable pump RPM control. What Nintendo Did Right and Wrong With Its Amiibo Figurines

Nintendo's Amiibo, its entry into the "toys-to-life" gaming accessory business that also includes Activision's Skylanders and Disney's Infinity, seems to be off to a fairly good start. But it could have been much better.

News::Last Inua Review - HookedGamers

HG: "Plenty of games have an ice level or two, but rarely are they set in the Arctic itself. Last Inua is a platforming adventure game where you take on the role of Atataaq and his son Hiko, travelling across the frozen wastes to survive the attack of a powerful demon. Its a port of a mobile game which came through Steams Greenlight process to arrive on PC. The mobile roots are easy to spot, but it has become a decent title on the more powerful platform, although not particularly engaging. The Tonrar is a tricky demon who has arisen in the mythical Arctic. Luckily, Hiko has some mystical abilities which can be used to combat the darkness. However, he is physically weak so he depends on his strong father to protect him and clear paths through the ice. This is the main crux of the gameplay. Atataaq leads the way, bashing through obstacles and climbing up cliffs to progress. This allows Hiko to follow in his wake."

News::Marvins Mittens Review | WGTC

WGTC: "As a child, snowfalls used to mean a lot more to me. Back then, they brought days off from school, sled rides, and messing about in my yard. While these days snow only makes me worry about how troublesome my daily commute will be, I still have faint memories of the joy it used to bring. And Marvins Mittens, an indie platformer from Breakfall Games, does a marvellous job of both rekindling that feeling and providing a simple but very fun and beautiful experience on its own. The brief intro shows the titular Marvin playing in the snowy woodlands near his home, only to have a mysterious figure make off with one of his mittens. The child gives chase, and the player immediately takes control. Its a simple plot told with minimal dialog, but its also lighthearted in an appealing way, and it doesnt take long to realize that this game is more about exploring and having a good time than delivering constant cutscenes and exposition."

News::Secret Ponchos Review - GameInformer

GI: "The frantic action of the twin-stick shooter genre makes it a perfect fit for co-op, but rarely do developers tackle competitive multiplayer. Head-to-head gunslinging is the sole focus of Secret Ponchos, but while the short matches favor skill over twitchy reflexes, myriad drawbacks will run you out of town faster than a belligerent sheriff. Secret Ponchos throws you into the game without any kind of tutorial, so you can expect to get slaughtered while learning the basic controls and abilities of your chosen character. Because characters level up individually and can't be swapped during matches, it takes a fair amount of time to find out which character best meshes with your playstyle, and once you do there's little incentive to switch things up since it means starting from scratch again."

News::Review of Escape Dead Island - Cheathappens

Cheathappens: "Escape Dead Island is nothing if not ambitious. It takes the series away from it's comfortable zombie bashing roots and attempts to tell an engaging and provocative story of horror and challenge our perception of what is real and what's not. Sadly though, attempt is the key word and Escape Dead Island fails to deliver on nearly any of it's promises. Squandering it's potential nearly every time it arises, Deep Silver's zombie departure is a boring and even insulting answer to the question of what's next for the zombie genre."

News::The Crew Review - Cheathappens

Cheathappens: "Playing through The Crew feels a lot like going on a long road trip with the worlds worst backseat driver. Instead of running the experience by constantly stopping you to use the bathroom and question your driving; its constantly trying to bait you into micro-transactions and remind you that theres a story here that you dont care about. There is a good amount to love in The Crew, but sadly its marred down by a terrible story and a system that rewards both pay to win and cheat to win methods over skill. After nearly a week with Ubisofts online racer, The Crew didnt satisfy my need for either a racing game, an MMO or a story driven experience; in fact, I never truly got the feeling that either the development team or myself knew what The Crew was even if it was very evident what it could be."

News::Mordheim: City of the Damned Preview (GameWatcher)

From GameWatcher.com: "I poured over 100 hours into XCOM: Enemy Unknown over multiple platforms when it came out. It was a superb tactical, turn-based game that married its core mechanics with a man-management sim that crucially made you care about the grunts in your team. Why make this reference? Well, Mordheim: City of the Damned has the potential of XCOM with its own solid turn-based tactical combat, but its crucially lacking the elements in Early Access that give its systems a compelling reason to play".

News::Game of Thrones: Iron From Ice Review - The Digital Fix

If there were any series perfect for the Telltale treatment, Game of Thrones would have to top the list (possibly behind that Very Hungry Caterpillar adaptation where you get to choose what he eats). The weighty decisions and shocking consequences are hallmarks of Telltales previous games, both of which are staples of George R. R. Martins acclaimed books. With the backing of HBO, Telltale are able to tie into the TV series, featuring familiar actors and locations as seen via members of House Forrester, a family on the sidelines of the series more pivotal events. Releasing near enough alongside Tales from the Borderlands, a series totally different in tone and setting, could it be argued that the Telltale formula is becoming too thinly-stretched?

News::A Brief History of Kenji Eno

Marcus Estrada writes: "There are innumerable great creators over all artistic disciplines, but there are always those who stand as incredibly unique amongst their peers. In the video game world, Kenji Eno was one such figure. As a teenager, he created his first game and continued to create for years. KAKEXUN, a game currently seeking funding on IndieGogo, was meant to be his last work. It was in more ways than one as he passed away after having shared the initial proposal with others. But many video game fans have never heard of Eno before. If you are one of them then heres your chance to learn more about this innovative developer."

News::The Talos Principle Review | Bit-Tech

Bit-Tech: The Talos Principle is quite the departure for developers Croteam, whose list of previous releases almost entirely involve the words "Sam" and "Serious." It's a first-person puzzler that challenges the player to solve a large number of little conundrums, while unpicking several grander, less tangible enigmas, such as "what does it mean to be human?" It is attractive, sedate brain food of the most wholesome kind, the gaming equivalent of a tasty granola, or brown toast spread with yummy marmalade. On a completely unrelated topic, I haven't eaten breakfast today.

Chalgyr's Game Room writes: While the Lone Wolf series might not be familiar to everyone, these were among my first roleplaying experiences as a kid more than twenty years ago. Given that I am a fan of RPGs and visual novels, the blending of the two genres into a video game made perfect sense to me. This PC port began as a mobile game, but with an emphasis on storytelling, the transition is actually a very smooth one. Lone Wolf offers about a dozen hours of gameplay as this HD remaster pulls together all of the mobile stories into a single game that crafts a fairly unique experience.

News::Never Alone Review - GameInformer

GI: "I used to love trips to the computer lab when I was in elementary school, because it meant that I got to play games like The Oregon Trail and Number Munchers. I didn't even realize that I was learning; I thought my teachers were suckers for letting me spend school time on the computer. Games can be powerful teaching tools, but they don't need to hide the fact that they have a goal other than pure entertainment. Never Alone is one of these titles; it immerses players in the culture of Alaska's native Iñupiat people through art, storytelling, and documentary-style clips. In those areas, the experience is educational and interesting. When it comes to being a fun puzzle/platformer, Never Alone can't make the grade."
