News::Strider Returns: Composer Michael John Mollo On Scoring Capcoms Legendary Ninja.

Sumthing writes: When I heard Capcom and the development team at Double Helix were in the midst of creating a new Strider title I could BARELY sleep, and I made sure to tell you about it. One of my main curiosities lay within the new games musical foundation. How would Strider Hiryu sound in 2014? This thought stewed in my brain for months. When I finally heard the snippets of material recorded by Striders brilliant composer Michael John Mollo, I immediately felt the absolute NEED to reach out to him. Mollos visionary mixture of emaciated mountaintops, steely chrome and Strider Hiryus dizzying kaleidoscopic sprint make for one of the most radiant and exciting scores of this year. It is also my first nomination for video game album of 2014. My conversation with Michael here took place on a very cold and grey January evening. A cold so chilling, I suspect Strider Hiryu would approve. I took it as a sign of fate.

Some truly excellent games from Rockstar are on sale right now on PlayStation Network.

You can't go wrong with the Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare Collection ($9.99) or Max Payne 3 ($4.99). Bully ($2.49), a PS2 Classic, really is a classic. And then there's the line of Midnight Club games for people who are into that series. I know you're here.

Also, The Warriors -- I'd be all over that if it weren't the PSP version being discounted.

News::Preview: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt | Stevivor

Stevivor's Nicholas Simonovski writes, "I can recall when The Witcher 2 was released a few years ago. A close friend of mine had spoken about how good it was, but had also mentioned its difficulty. Being the kind of person who enjoys a challenge but would rather avoid the frustration, I decided to steer clear. Last week however, I was fortunate enough to sit in on a hands-off demonstration of The Witcher 3 at Bandai Namcos head offices, with three developers talking about the upcoming title and giving us a 30 minute gameplay presentation too. Looking back, and now knowing what we have in store when The Witcher 3 launches later this year, Id be lying if I said I wasnt a little regretful missing out in Witcher 2. I can say with relative confidence that what we have coming up is pretty damn promising."

News::Medieval RPG Kingdom Come locked in for Xbox One, PS4

I'm with Steven. If the laundry list of claims being made about Warhorse Studios' first-person medieval sandbox RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance come to fruition, this is going to be one impressive game. Hopefully it will be fun, too. You never really know how emergent systems are going to play out until you're, well, playing the actual game.

Kingdom Come was announced for PC, Mac, and Linux, with support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One dependent on approval from the powers that be. Said approval has been granted. Here's what you need to know if you are a Kickstarter backer of this project:

  • If you backed a tier with digital copy of the game, you can choose any platform you want, on any tier.

  • If you backed a tier with boxed copy and want a console version, we can send you the box and other goodies, depending on your tier. If at all possible, we will give you the disk with the game, otherwise you will get the digital version.

  • The Alpha version access is confirmed for Windows version only. We are working with other platform holders to see if it could be made available there, but we cannot promise anything yet.

  • The Beta access will be available on Windows, Linux and Mac at least; it may also be available on consoles but we cannot confirm it yet.

There's less than two days to go for the campaign and as a testament to how much people are into this concept, the game has one stretch goal remaining at £1,000,000. I think they might just pull it off, which would add a dog companion to Kingdom Come. Obviously, this must happen.

News::1945: Alcatraz | Preview - AWESOMEoutof10

AWESOMEoutof10's Fraser Brown decided that rather than tattoo the blueprints of a prison all over his body, he'd just take a peek at Daedalic Entertainment's latest game, 1945: Alcatraz. "Its a new side of Daedalic, absent the whimsy and folkish fantasy of Memoria or The Night of the Rabbit. Yet at its heart its still a traditional point and click adventure game, or at least a natural progression of the traditional adventure game had it never gone out of style. Its a counterpoint to The Walking Dead, showing that a modern example of the genre can still draw from the past and fill its scenes with puzzles. 1954: Alcatraz will launch in Q1 of this year. Soon, then."

Jumper: Griffins Story had me walking on air. I dont mean that in a heavenly bliss sort of way, but in a more literal sense. There was an entire level in that physically had me running twenty feet above the ground. There was a particular floor, whos texture would disappear from a certain field of view, which made it seem as if you were standing on nothing. This was only for one level, but considering the game only took me 2 1/2 hours to get through, it was a decent chunk of the campaign. This little bug is a great representation for the overall experience youll have with Jumper: Griffins Story.

News::Cliff Bleszinski is done making disc-based games

It's unclear what exactly Cliff Bleszinski's next game will be, though last we heard a first-person arena shooter was at least a possibility. The former Epic Games designer has spoken about his future in an interview with Gamasutra, offering a few hints at what he's got in mind.

"PC is where I'm going to wind up," he said. "That's where the community is. The trend will always be the core. If I start a studio, I want a community manager there day one. I want weekly video or podcasts; I want task lists available on the subreddit. When my wife and I play Rust, before we play, we check the subreddit. Whenever you get a little bored with a game, someone issues an update. I feel like a game developer again, where I get to check out the build list.

"The whole 'old guard,' where you get a Game Informer cover and an E3 reveal, is dead," he continued. "I'll never make another disc-based game for the rest of my career, and [at E3] they're trying to woo buyers from Target and Walmart?" Bleszinski believes there are two key lessons to be learned from games like Rust and Minecraft: "Get the game out there and build it. Some kid will put out a video. Players will teach each other. You don't need the 'press A to jump.'"

Reflecting on his extensive career at Epic Games, he said that "I don't want [Gears of War] to be my defining legacy. At the end of the day, it's known for being a fun, fantastic franchise. But I'd like to think there's more to my creativity than that."

The Witcher games are loosely based upon the books of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, and have been very successful both on PC and consoles. News::Broken Age Review | Warp Zoned

Warp Zoned writes: "Since the introduction of crowdfunding sites such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo, there have been a number of high-profile successes that have managed to capture the collective imagination of the public and skyrocket beyond their original goals. Double Fine Productions Broken Age is one such title, dwarfing its initial target of $400,000 by raising $3.3 million, one of the highest amounts ever raised for a game. The reason for the excitement was simple; industry veteran Tim Schafer, designer on classic point-and-click games such as LucasArts Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, and co-designer on the incredibly funny Monkey Island series, was returning to the genre. But how does his latest endeavour stand up against these unforgettable games?"

Racist and homophobic remarks get bounced around like a playground ball, and personal attacks are commonplace in online communities where children are present. There is a troubling issue at hand that stems not from the children, but from those they share their online communities with: the adult gamers. These children are merely a product of their online environment and its about time we stop calling for their exclusion and take a stand against those that act so vehemently toward them.

No matter -- I prefer writing about stuff that you all can go out and immediately try for yourselves. Anyway, this is a local multiplayer game for PC/Mac in which spacefaring neon narwhals do battle and it's now up on Steam Early Access for $9.99.

Impaling my closest friends and soon-to-be enemies as a majestic Starwhal does sound appealing. Developer Breakfall says it will be "rolling out with multiplayer features first, bit by bit, and then later will release the final release version that includes single-player challenge mode."

The team is targeting May 2014 for completion, and the price "will probably only go up once all the new features are included."
