News:: Did You Know Gaming wants to yell some facts about Tingle at you

One of the strangest games I own is this little gem for the DS called Tingle's Freshly Picked Rosy Rupeeland. Never released in the North America but playable on my DSi XL due to Nintendo not implementing region lock, it is an absolutely weird-ass adventure game that, for me, stands beside other great oddities to make it out of Japan like Cubivore, Prey the Stars, and Snowpack Park. I love a game that can leave me dumbfounded and Rupeeland achieves that without a sweat.

I thought I knew everything there is to know about Tingle, including information on games that never made it out of Japan. Turns out I was wrong, and this Did You Know Gaming video on the green fairy educated me to some new information by screaming it directly at me.

News:: Promoted blog: Lonely gamer

[Years ago, we thought the console wars were about to restart in earnest. But with Dere as a witness to what has been happening lately, maybe the console wars have been a little one-sided, leading to more than a bit of frustration. Want to see your blogs on the front page? Get to writing! ~Strider]

I've learned pretty quickly and many times over that life is full of disappointment. Hey, you get used to it. You learn to live with it and learn what to do next time. I have a disappointment that has recently begun manifesting itself. A disappointment I didn't realize had happened when I first started. A disappointment that has made me what I affectionately term myself "The Lonely Gamer."

News:: Platinum teases 'formless' new IP

Something's going on at PlatinumGames. During a keynote address at the BitSummit indie gaming show, producer Atsushi Inaba teased that the fan-favorite studio might be working on a new project.

There's relatively little information in the producer's statement, which mostly revolved around the fact that PlatinumGames is kicking around a yet-"formless" IP.

News:: Review: Cooking Mama: Sweet Shop

I still remember the day I bought Cooking Mama for the Nintendo DS. It was a hot September afternoon in the Bay Area. My best friend at the time and I visited the Best Buy in Sausalito and each purchased a copy. Giggling like the schoolgirls we were, we rushed back to her place, popped it into our handhelds, and spent the next few hours trying to adjust to the quirks of the touch screen controls. It was shallow, God was it shallow, but it was also one of the more interesting and gosh darn fun mini-game collections I’d played.

Something happened after that. I stuck with Mama for a few more games on the Wii and DS, but that lightning-in-a-bottle magic was gone. Even though I believe Cooking Mama 2: Cooking with Friends is inarguably a better game than the first, it just didn’t hit me the same. Something in me must have changed; perhaps I’d outgrown the sweet simplicity of the series. I didn’t pick up another Mama game after that assuming my ability to enjoy them has subsided. Nearly a decade later, I want to see if that is the case with Cooking Mama: Sweet Shop.

News:: Weekend deals: five free games, cheap 2K titles, and new Cities: Skylines DLC

On a tight budget and need to blow off some steam this weekend? Even if you're on no budget at all, there are five free games available from various sites, but they're all only $0.00 for a limited time. GOG is giving away copies of Mount & Blade and Sang Froid - Tales of Werewolves through the end of today. Origin's free game of the week became Death in Bermuda, which normally runs $15 and is among the highest list price games for free this weekend. (In EU? That free game becomes Medal of Honor Pacific Assault). If you're a Twitch Prime member (Amazon Prime includes Twitch Prime) the normally $15 Titan Souls is free for a limited time. Last but not least on Tuesday Microsoft re-released the old 2005 Xbox game Phantom Dust and is giving it away from Xbox One and Windows 10 machines.

If you were hoping for a cheap weekend of Civilization titles, XCOM, or any of the 2K sports series check out GamersGate's 2K Sale and GMG's Civilization Sale. PC gamers are getting discounts up to 82% off 2K games. GMG has the best prices for Civ titles including the cheapest ever Civilization VI Deluxe for $45.55 and Civilization VI for $34.16. GamersGate's 2K sale is larger and includes Summer sale pricing on popular titles like XCOM 2 and the Borderlands series.

This week marked the release of the newest Cities: Skylines DLC pack Mass Transit. The best price online is at the WinGameStore with a drop to $10.49 after coupon (elsewhere $13). Steam has the base game Cities: Skylines priced at $9.60 this weekend, which is much cheaper than its usual $30 but GMG is handily beating that price with a drop to $8.16 on their site. Actually we'd recommend skipping the base game and instead getting the Cities: Skylines Deluxe Edition from GMG for only $8.50 - a price cheaper than Steam is charging for the base game.

News:: It looks like The 25th Ward is getting remastered

Japanese developer Grasshopper Manufacture is doubling down on obscure remasters lately. This time around, it's The 25th Ward that's getting a second chance at life.

The announcement came alongside a short and stylish teaser video. It's got all the trappings of a Suda 51 game -- bold characters, guns, and text that makes next to zero sense.

One More Thing
Steven Levy,

Apple's so-called spaceship campus, or Apple Park, has been in the works for a while now, but this week Wired gave us a big update on the progress. The obsessive attention to detail, tunnel entry, modular "pod" sections for employees and more are all detailed here. Like any other Apple product, the company is using a keen eye when designing it's biggest project thus far.

News:: Review: Old Man's Journey

I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting myself into when I signed up to review Old Man’s Journey. The name made me think I’d be playing something about a man dying and coming to terms with his life or that I’d be living in a nursing home. Perhaps this would be a game where I’d shoo kids off my lawn and bemoan how the days of my youth were so much better.

I really wasn’t prepared for what came next. Without a single line of dialog, Old Man’s Journey manages to tell a profound and heartbreaking story of loss, regret, and reconnecting with your family while dabbling with some relaxed and clever little puzzles elements. I mean…wow.

News:: Grab a deal on ESO's Morrowind upgrade and get access Monday

Chalk another discount up for PC gamers. The Morrowind upgrade for The Elder Scrolls Online has early-access availability coming to you two weeks before the scheduled June 6 release. For whatever reason, console peasants pals do not get such treatment.

Those on PC who already own ESO and have pre-ordered the Morrowind expansion can start pre-loading the content this weekend as to be ready for early access on Monday, May 22. On top of that, PC gamers are getting discounts on the Morrowind upgrade.

The best price online is Green Man Gaming with an 18% price drop from $40 to $32.79. DLGamer is also confirmed to be shipping keys out early with its 16% discount to $33.49. GamersGate shares a similar 18% discount with GMG and is also sending keys as of writing.

News:: PSA: You can grab a free epic Hearthstone card today

If you login to Hearthstone today, you'll receive a free epic "Fight Promoter" card for your deck. Why this card is being given away is anyone's guess, but the gesture is appreciated. Hearthstone recently released the Journey to Un'Goro expansion and some fans have speculated that the cost of getting a "good" deck is too high, so maybe this is Blizzard trying to level the playing field a bit.

As for what the "Fight Promoter" does, the card will allow you to draw two cards if you have a minion on the playing field with six or more health. I guess that is a pretty specific circumstance (since six health cards are typically high value), but getting more cards in hand is always a plus.

If that sounds stupid to you, then you could just turn the card into Dust. Dust allows you to craft new cards after reaching a certain amount and Epic cards are typically worth 100 Dust. Something is better than nothing.
